Google’s $920M Monthly Compute Deal with SpaceX: A Strategic Partnership for AI Dominance

### Google’s $920M Monthly Compute Deal with SpaceX: A Strategic Partnership for AI Dominance

Google has announced a significant compute deal with SpaceX, agreeing to pay the latter $920 million per month from October 2026 through June 2029. The deal grants Google access to approximately 110,000 NVIDIA GPUs, CPUs, memory, and other related components.

This agreement is similar in length and scope to the one announced by SpaceX with Anthropic in late May. In that deal, Anthropic agreed to pay $1.25 billion per month through 2029 for compute from Colossus 1 data center near Memphis, Tennessee. Google’s deal appears to be paying for roughly half the amount of compute that Anthropic has access to.

SpaceX didn’t specify which data center Google would use under this agreement. CEO Elon Musk previously mentioned reserving the Colossus 2 data center for xAI, but it is unclear if this deal will utilize that facility or another location.

Google’s demand for compute capacity is driven by its AI products, particularly Gemini Enterprise. The company’s representative stated that the deal was a result of unexpected customer demand for these products. This agreement highlights Google’s position as one of the largest owners of AI compute globally.

The deal includes a cancellation clause, allowing both parties to terminate the agreement with 90 days’ notice after December 31, 2026. If SpaceX fails to deliver access to the committed amount of GPUs by September 30, 2026, Google may immediately terminate the agreement or accept the number of GPUs provided at a reduced fee.

This deal comes as SpaceX prepares for its historic IPO, which is expected to raise around $75 billion at a valuation of approximately $1.75 trillion. Google’s stake in Musk’s company is anticipated to be worth more than $100 billion after the IPO. The two companies are also reportedly discussing plans to build orbital data centers.

**The Compute Deal: A Breakdown**

* **Monthly Payment:** $920 million per month from October 2026 through June 2029

* **Compute Access:** Approximately 110,000 NVIDIA GPUs, CPUs, memory, and other related components

* **Cancellation Clause:** Both parties can terminate the agreement with 90 days’ notice after December 31, 2026

* **Termination Conditions:** SpaceX must deliver access to the committed amount of GPUs by September 30, 2026. Failure to do so may result in immediate termination or reduced fee acceptance.

**The Strategic Partnership: A Win-Win for Both Companies**

This compute deal is a strategic partnership between Google and SpaceX that highlights their commitment to AI dominance. By providing Google with access to massive compute capacity, SpaceX can generate significant revenue while establishing itself as a major player in the cloud computing market.

As both companies prepare for their respective IPOs, this deal demonstrates their confidence in their business models and their ability to drive growth through strategic partnerships.
